Entry 6: Social Relationships
Norco is a gemeinschaft community. There is very little business barring the refinery and a few small restaurants and grocery stores. The city government is non-existent. There is only a small civic-league to help the voice of the community be unified. The main source of activity in the community is the plant. Civil action seems to be encouraged by members of the more low-income neighborhoods, but discouraged in the rest of the city. Many members of the community are proud to express their religious beliefs and place out statues of the Virgin Mary. One of the most major points in the city is the spillway. There are several locations where people can get together to eat and listen to the radio and socialize with their families. This area also provides locations for recreation.

You have intentionally posted pictures of homes to make the community look poor. You mention nothing of the attorneys, dentist, teachers, and small business owners that thrive in Norco. All communities are made up of people at different income levels. You imply a racial disparity when none exists. You suggest that we all do nothing but drink beer and socialize. You are so intent on creating a story that you care nothing for the truth.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above post. Norco is a community of varying income levels. The farther west you go, the higher the income and vice versa. There are other schools; two public school. Norco pk2 and Norco 3-5. St. Charles Parish public schools are among the highest performing in the state. Destrehan isn't 10-15 minutes away. It is more like 5-10 minutes away. Do not undermine our small towns to seem as poor poor people. People in Norco live there because housing prices stay consistent, schools are good, people are nice, crime isn't high, work is close, and family is closer.
